Fallen behind slightly

My first H-Game review has fallen behind slightly because of Starcraft II. I play it a little later in the night than I usually want to which cuts back on the time I play … other games.

On the bright side, I finished Kozue last night and am starting on Miss Misato tonight; the teacher and Misaki’s older sister

Love Plus

Due to the nature of the games I’ll be reviewing for this website, it makes me wonder if a game like Love Plus for the DS will ever be out in North America, or at least a fan translated version of the game.  It’s a huge craze in Japan.

From my understanding of the game, it’s a dating sim with an AI.  The massive branching conversation trees are far larger than anything I have access to and people REALLY fall in love with these characters.. In fact I believe I remember more than one man marrying one of the Love Plus girls on the DS.  Fucking weird, but hey, not everyone is perfectly sane.

I guess if you’ve never slept with a real woman, a flesh light (or one of those amazing Tenga devices) and your game can do the trick enough since you don’t know any better.

Still, I’d like to play it.  Who knows, maybe I’d lose my sanity and end up falling in love with a 15 year-old-looking digitized school girl (who’s supposedly 18).

On another note, I should be finishing Kozue tonight and moving onto Miss Misaki, the teacher, tomorrow night.  I’m not really looking forward to it since she seems the least likable.

Well shit.

I went to go start on Kozue from Snow Sakura and my save games are all gone. Completely. Fuck-nuggets! Looks like I’ll be starting over again. *sigh*

EDIT – Thanks to the SKIP ALL feature in these games, I was able to fill my save game again in about 10 minutes with a walkthrough for the girls I had already completed.  I love the internet :D

I’m now more than half-way through Kozue so the review is back on track.

I’m Not Ashamed Anymore!

Rei from Snow Sakura

OK, I’m a little ashamed, but I’m going to admit it anyway.  Ladies and gentlemen, I play translated “dating sims” from game companies in Japan.  Yes it’s true that most of these are mostly just anime sex games covered up by a story.  Some of them are pretty vile too.  The Japanese seem to like rape for some reason, so I tend to avoid those games.  However, I’ve gathered a collection  of games I do enjoy and some I plan to finish at some point.

Honestly, I never saw myself liking anything like this.  It pretty much all started while browsing SomethingAwful.com and seeing they had reviews for these types of games.  I read a few of them and laughed.  They made the games sound absolutely horrible.  The only one they gave a good rating was a game with a very straight forward name. “Do You Like Horny Bunnies?”.  Blunt to say the least.  I decided to torrent it and see for myself.  Sure enough, it was a fun game.  The characters are likable, the music is heartwarming, the drawing are very well done and the story was half-decent.  Made me want to become a sommelier for a brief period of my life.  I never followed through with that or mentioned what my inspirations were at the time, but there you have it.  It was at that point though that I wanted to try more of these styles of games.

You know, I use the word “game” but most of these are just illustrated “choose your own adventure” romance novels.  Pretty weird for a 24 year old male to play.  To my understanding there are a few of them out there that really are games.  Brave Soul sounds like a full-out JRPG with sex. (Like every Final Fantasy nerd REALLY wants)  Sadly it doesn’t work on Windows 7 64-bit so I’ll have to play it some other time.

My current run through is a game called Snow Sakura.  I don’t actually have a box for it, but here’s what I assume was on it to give you an idea about the game:

My name is Tachibana Yuuji, a regular student with no particular plans for the future – until my parents left for Hawaii on a business trip last fall, leaving me in the care of my uncle in the wintry countryside of Hokkaido.

Small-town life on Japan’s northern island didn’t have time to get dull, as from the moment I got there I was reunited with my cousin and childhood friend Saki. She’s pretty demanding, but when I’m hanging out with her and her school friends I don’t mind; as I get close to them I feel like I’m finding meaning in life that I didn’t know I was looking for.

Legend says there is a flower that blooms here in the depth of winter… as the twilight deepens and a snowflake melts in the palm of my hand, I stand with a beautiful girl by my side. Will we be able to uncover its mystery in this fleeting moment?

That doesn’t really give you much of an idea.  I’ve played it through once already and it’s a dating sim without any mystery to “uncover”.  They reason the Snow Sakura blooms in the middle of winter is revealed with a decent scientific explanation when you try dating Rei who is a shrine maiden who tends to the Snow Sakura and surrounding temple and hot springs.

There’s one thing that really bugs me about the game though…  Saki is your cousin.  Your uncle’s daughter.  She’s one of your potential romantic pursuits.. but she’s your cousin.. Another sad part is she’s one of the most likable characters in the game.  It’s just a game, but some of these can get pretty fucking immersive.

There’s one game called Kana Little Sister.  Your sister was diagnosed with a terminal illness and you’re spending your time as her brother making her remaining time alive happy.  Before you ask, there is one way where you end up sleeping with her (fucked up), but out of every review I’ve read for it I read that grown men being put to tears over the story.  I don’t know if that’s depressing or uplifting because it’s clear that people really do put a lot of thought into the stories and make them worth while to read or listen to if you understand Japanese.  I played through a bit of Kana and stopped the second I felt like crying.  I haven’t cried since elementary school so it shows you the potential emotional power some of these stories hold.

Now, back to the topic at hand.  A lot of these games are actually really good.  They shouldn’t be taken as teachings for dating because they’re fantasy scenarios, (Especially Do You Like Horny Bunnies? 1 & 2) but for the sheer enjoyment of decent stories and likable characters, these are worth a shot.  I have a feeling I’ll be doing reviews of these games on this blog so keep looking back.  I’ll be playing a few over again to do the reviews, but Snow Sakura is definitely next in line.

I’m half-way through Rei so I still have 3 more to go after this.  Since I only play the game for an hour a night the reviews will be coming slowly.  That doesn’t mean I’m not going to keep updating though.

Until next time,

Upcoming Article

I’m actually writing this coming article for CouchAthletics.com but I’ll be posting it here as well to have my own personal backup. It’s about my views on MMOs and why I no longer play them.

I hope I can make it interesting.

Work time!

I’ve been working on this one computer problem for about a week now knowing damn well that it is either the motherboard or processor.  Since I don’t have an AM2 processor to test I can’t know for sure.  Thankfully I decided to check HP’s part warehouse today and it made my decision for the customer about what to do with the computer.

I wasn’t sure which part for sure needed to be replaced so I tried to get a quote on both.  The computer is only about two years old, but I couldn’t get either part.  They just don’t sell to repair businesses so they can make money having the computer sent to them.  How much money?  It’s about $400 for the repairs to be made.  That doesn’t include shipping, and this was a desktop computer.

“Fuck that” is what I would say.  The customer hasn’t called back about what they want to do with it but if it were me, I’d take it as a good opportunity to get a new computer.  Something with Windows 7 on it rather than Vista.

What would you do?

Legacy Website Update

That is taking WAY to long to do.  For anyone that’s interested in reading the archives, do the following to read the older dates.

Click on an archived month.  When you’re done reading that click on the title navigation bar to go back to the homepage.  Repeat.

Copying everything over would take like 3 hours and since it’s not paying me anything, screw that.

Old Website Coming Over

If you take notice to the top right corner of the screen, I have finally figured out how to put menus on my website since this theme doesn’t natively support it.

The link is to my old website.  I didn’t want to lose all the hard work I put into it so I brought it over.  The only problem is that now I have to change every URL in every “archive” html file.  It’s a far bigger pain in the ass than I thought it would be.  There are a lot of links involved in doing that!

If you click it now, the website does come up, but it’s not 100% fully functional yet, so bear with me and I’ll have the archives up and running completely in a few days if you want to check out my old stuff.

The Perfect Woman Is Not Perfect… Fuck.

Today, hanging out at the beach with very good friend, there was one friend of theirs that came along.  Through drunk eyes I can see almost every girl “good enough” but today since I was driving and had a cold I stayed sober completely.

Well this friend was fucking amazing.  Skinny, but not disgustingly skinny.  Double D sized breasts(by guess), a nice ass, great legs and best of all, she loved gaming.  Cooperative gaming at that!  She mentioned a lot of Halo and Call of Duty.

I thought, “Perfect.  The kind of girl I’ve been waiting for for 24 years!”  Then the biggest letdown of my entire life was uttered. “She’s a Jesus freak.”

I instantly thought of every fffffffuuuuuuuuu comic ever made.  God dammit. These girls are so hard to come by.

I’m Back!

OK. So there was a long wait between when I had the site down.  It was an experiment to see how much energy was saved since my old server was a Pentium 4.  Those things suck back the power like no tomorrow.  Now I’m running this entire website and my BT fileshare on a tiny nVIDIA Ion computer.  Less power consumption than a laptop and 1/4th of the space of my old server.  Not too shabby, really.   I kinda wish I didn’t spend so much money on it though.  This thing sucked balls as a file server when running Windows 7, so now I”m rockin’ Ubuntu 10.04 since I don’t like dealing with command lines enough to work with Ubuntu Server.

Some day I’ll learn enough commands to run a server, but for now, no.  I just want this fucking thing up and running again.  Here it is and I’m going to start filling it in with old posts.

I hope you enjoy your stay and hopefully I can keep it up to date this time rather than let it sit and be used as nothing but a torrent box.
